Of course the most frequently asked question is "What kind of music do you guys play?". The most unpretentious answer to this question would simply be this; instrumental rock....for we don't have a singer. We often embrace odd time signatures, or odd phrasings, and we enjoy abrupt changes. Most of the pieces are dominated by the bass & drums, with the guitars pulling textures and occasional melodies from the rhythms. You can think of us as a 'Progressive Chinese Country Math Rock' band.

We have already produced one CD titled 'Strange Meat', and we are about a month away from presenting our second release 'Dui Niu Tan Qin'. This is a Chinese idiom that translate to 'Like playing to a cow'. It has the same meaning as the English idiom 'Like talking to a brick wall'.

 

Spiral Cow是一个成立2年多的Instrumental/Math Rock乐队，乐队的成员鼓手D4（来自美国奥斯丁的Limp Absent乐队）吉他手谢玉岗（来自大连的后摇滚乐队惘闻），吉他手王亚楠和贝斯李欣（来自大连的另一个后摇滚乐队妈妈保佑），尽管乐队的各个成员均同时参加多个乐队，但这并不意味着Spiral Cow只是一个短期的Project。乐队自成立以来已经独立发行了2张唱片：Strange Meat (2005); Like Playing to a Cow (2007)。

 

Spiral Cow是真正意义上的中国第一支Math Rock乐队，他们的音乐充斥着各种奇怪的拍子、或而优美或而暴戾的旋律，而且看起来他们总是对各种意料之外的变化充满了兴趣，没有意料之外的惊喜，只有意料之外的意外。当然，乐队才不在乎什么Math的标签，他们更愿意把自己的音乐戏虐地描绘成“前卫中国乡土数学摇滚”。
